About Us

St Francis De Sales School is a Catholic Integrated Primary School for girls and boys from Year 1 to Year 8.

We are an urban school with students from a range of ethnic backgrounds which adds a special cultural diversity to our school. Our goal is to provide a holistic education in that we attempt to meet the spiritual, learning, physical, social and emotional needs of the students. We have a strong emphasis on achievement in learning, particularly in Literacy (Writing and Reading) and Numeracy. Within this goal we ensure that all students have the opportunity to take part in arts and sports based programmers, areas in which the school has achieved success in wider community activities. Part of our school philosophy is inclusive education which means that all students take part in all school activities to the limit of their skills and abilities.

A strength of our school is the intermediate group of Year 7 and 8 classes. We believe that these students gain much through having the opportunity to be leaders of the younger children of the school. There are many roles and responsibilities so all have the chance to practice skills that will be useful to them at all stages of their lives.  In addition, a challenging programme is provided for this age group which includes an annual outdoor education week, in odd years a bushcraft camp to develop personal independence and resiliency and in even years a field trip to Hawkes Bay to learn about the sources of produce, and the impact of tourism.
