BOT member profiles

Rachael Burke

I am the Mum of two boys at St Francis de Sales, one in year 4 and one in year 7. I see being a parent representative on the Board of Trustees as a way of being more involved in my children’s education. It will also allow me to be involved in the future direction and long term plan of the school. When not following my boys around their various sports, I can be found at the beach coaching surf lifesaving or running my Physiotherapy and Pilates Practice. The skills that I see I can bring to the Board are the ability to work well in a team, good communication skills and experience in decision making and planning.

Peter Chew

I am a Director at KPMG, a global consulting and accounting firm, having spent more than fifteen years advising government agencies and businesses in the UK and New Zealand to drive improved operational efficiency, cost reduction and performance improvement. I am accustomed to supporting organisations at a governance level, having recently advised the Boards of major NZX-listed organisations, as well as charities and smaller private institutions.

I am particularly passionate about a Catholic education, am proud to sit on the Board of Trustees for St Francis de Sales and am committed to supporting the success of the school wherever possible.

Tamanda Chinula

I have been a member of the St Francis de Sales School community for the past seven years. I have two sons at the school. After leaving university I worked for 18 years in the retail industry as a buyer, merchandise planner and in various management positions. I am currently lucky enough to be a stay at home mum. I work well as part of a team and am never afraid to put my hand up. I see being on the school board as a way to constructively contribute and support the school and wider community.

Dan McGuinness

I am married to Becs and we have 4 daughters, of which our two eldest attend SFDS. We have been living in Island Bay for the past 7 years. I have a degree in quantity surveying and am part of our family construction company LT McGuinness Ltd. I am a national Councillor for the NZ Institute of Quantity Surveyors and Chairman of the Weltec Built Environment Education Committee. I am looking forward to being part of the SFDS BOT and contributing to the school, particularly the Catholic character and property matters.

Tom Mahony

I am a solicitor with over 15 years’ experience in private practice. I am a partner at Mahony Burrowes Horner Lawyers, specialising in property and commercial law. My wife Victoria (“Tor”) and I have had an involvement with SFDS since 2010 when our eldest daughter Milly enrolled at the school. Our younger children, Ned and Alice now also attend SFDS.

I look forward to my continuing contribution to SFDS including the numerous school, property and community projects and initiatives undertaken by the BOT.

Emma Richards

I have been on the Board of Trustees since 2013 first as a parent rep and now as a proprietor's appointee. My two daughters attend St Francis de Sales and I put myself forward for the Board as a way of contributing to the school community. It enables me to take an active role in supporting the school as it nurtures and educates our children. I have a legal background and currently work as a director at PwC in its Tax and Private Business team.

Mark Ross

I am the immediate past Board Chair and have been a parent representative on the Board since 2012. I am married to Vanessa, and have one daughter (Ella) and a son (Oliver) attending St Francis de Sales. My eldest daughter (Lucy) left St Francis de Sales in 2015, with our family being a part of the school community since 2007. My focus on the Board is about ensuring that as governors of the school we are providing a setting that enables a strong pastoral, along with a safe and positive learning environment for all our children. On a professional level I am the Chief Executive of the industry association Agcarm. I have recently been appointed to the St Mary’s College school Board, and also sit on several professional Boards within the Agricultural sector.

Maree Spencer

I have served on the board as a proprietor's rep since mid-2013. I currently have 2 children at St Francis de Sales school (my oldest is now at St Pats) and think it is a great school. Being on the board is a way for me to contribute to and support the school. I work in Brooklyn as a GP.
